So I am not totally happy with how "Star Wars Rebels" ended, although it could have gone worse.  The epilogue at the end kinda helps make up for some other things, and provides "hope". ;)

That should do it...

In the last couple of minutes of "Star Wars Rebels", Sabine narrates a montage showing what happens to the majority of the Ghost crew after the Battle of Lothal.  Due to some other canon media, we already knew Hera would serve the Rebel Alliance for a long time and survive the Battle of Endor, and we assumed Chopper would, too, but this solidified it to the audience of "Rebels", and also pretty much confirmed that Commander Rex is indeed the old Rebel trooper spotted on Endor in ROTJ. :D

aZR7Z4a.jpg

Dave Filoni all but confirmed this himself at the last Star Wars Celebration by "accidentally" revealing some SWR concept art of Rex in an almost identical costume and asking "What was that? ...  How did that get in there?", but until the finale, there was no official confirmation that Rex fought at Endor.

Zeb took Kallus to the hidden Lasat world from season two, showing Kallus that he was not responsible for the extinction of Zeb's people...

Sabine waited on Lothal as Ezra was "counting on her"...  She thought he was counting on her to protect the people of Lothal, but later realized that he was counting on her to find him.  We see her meet a very alive and well Ahsoka - who Ezra told just a couple of episodes earlier to (paraphrasing) 'look him up when she got back'.  Sabine closes by saying "Ezra's out there somewhere, and it's time to bring him home," as she apparently moves to board a ship with Ahsoka...

So....  If the next animated series is a post-Endor series focusing on Sabine and Ahsoka teaming up to search for Ezra, I may actually have to eat my words and pay for the damned streaming service after all.

If I can't find a way to pirate it. ;)  I still loathe the idea of the streaming only platform.

Anyway, there's one big new reveal that Terran and a lot of others like him are going to loathe.   Human/alien hybrids are now canon, or more canon if they were before, as somehow, in the middle of all the fighting and everything going to hell around them, Kanan and Hera somehow found time to ... um...  "show their love for one another", and conceive a child.

Jacen Syndulla

Interesting choice of name for the kid.  Could be just an homage to Legends or a tease to the fans, or something from a random SW name generator, or it could be an easter egg or clue of things to come...  Only time will tell.

Here's the epilogue:

So now the announcement has been made that a new animated series, "Star Wars Resistance" will debut this fall.

https://www.starwars...-for-fall-debut

Meh....

Well, Dave Filoni is involved, so maybe it will be good. I was skeptical about Rebels when it was announced, and also still pissed that TCW was cancelled as a result of George LucA$$'s sellout to Disney and Disney's slaughter of many Star Wars projects... I was pleasantly surprised, though when I decided to give Rebels a shot and I loved it.

The anime style announced for this new show, though, is not something I'm a big fan of, especially after the success of two CGI animated series and the mixed reactions to the anime-esque "Forces of Destiny" project. The animation style is not as important as the story, though, so I'll give it a chance and watch the first few episodes.

I was hoping the next animated series would be something telling the story of Ahsoka and Sabine searching for Ezra, though, and on the opposite side, some antagonist looking for Thrawn - like Palpatine or maybe Snoke... Something following the epilogue of the series finale of "Star Wars Rebels". I was even hoping that the "young pilot" who was unnamed in earlier announcements of this new series might be Jacen Syndulla, but those hopes were dashed as new details came out in later versions of the announcement, identifying the "young pilot" as "Kazuda Xiono" - some new character.

I was actually disappointed for multiple reasons with this announcement of the next animated series, which takes place a few years before "The Force Awakens". As I said, I'm not a fan of the anime style and I think it's a step down from what Lucasfilm Animation and Dave FIloni's team have done already, but it could work if the story is good enough. I've also already pointed out that I was hoping for something showing what happened after the Battle of Endor with the Rebels characters. The Rebels finale epilogue ended with a giant cliffhanger, with Sabine and Ahsoka apparently going off to search for Ezra. Instead of getting something that follows up on that, now we're getting an anime show about some new pilot recruited by the Resistance just prior TFA, with cameos by BB-8, Poe, and Phasma...

"Woo.... ... ... hoo... <_< "

I actually like the sequel films, so I'm in the minority already :P, but despite enjoying those films and not hating them and bitching about every stupid little detail, I enjoyed "Star Wars Rebels" more than either TFA or TLJ. I would rather have any new shows following stories along the lines of TCW or Rebels than something completely new set in the sequel era.

Like I said, though, I'll give it a chance, just because Dave FIloni is behind it.

Killing off Kanan and Thrawn I didn't like, the rest of the finale was acceptable.  Wish Ezra bit it but you can't have your cake and eat it too

Thrawn survived.  Dave Filoni said in some interview that both Ezra and Thrawn survived that jump to Hyperspace.
